Broad-spectrum antibiotic

Functions

A fluoro-analog of thiamphenicol and is a broad-spectrum antibiotic which is widely used in animal health. It interferes with bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S subunit of the70S ribosome. Extensive use in aquaculture, livestock and poultry farming has led to an increase in bacterial antibiotic resistance and facilitated the spread of resistance genes. Suppresses LPS-stimulated splenocyte proliferation and impairs immune responses in mice.

Application Procedures

First dissolved in DMSO (up to 50 mg/ml), then diluted to aqueous buffer. Solutions in DMSO may be stored at -20°C for up to 3 months.
