Description
Safe-Red is a new and safe class of gel loading dye for the visualization of double-stranded DNA, single-stranded DNA, and RNA in agarose gels. The dye was developed to replace Ethidium Bromide (EtBr, a potent mutagen), commonly used in gel electrophoresis for visualization of nucleic acids in agarose gels. Safe-Red is non-carcinogenic by the Ames-test. The results are negative in both the mouse marrow chromophilous erythrocyte micronucleus and mouse spermary spermatocyte chromosomal aberration tests. Safe-Red loading dye does not require the addition of any stain to the molten agarose, simplifying workflow processes. The product is provided in a ready to use 6X format and is added directly to samples prior to loading onto the gel. Safe-Red loading dye eliminates contamination risk of glassware or agarose gel apparatus as associated with EtBr.
