Description
Mitochondria are central organelles controlling the life and death of the cell. They participate in key metabolic reactions and regulate crucial signaling pathways including apoptosis. Mitochondrial dysfunction is involved in many diseases, like cancer, diabetes, cardiac failure, and neurodegenerative disorders. Mitochondria are double membrane organelles: an outer membrane and a folded inner membrane called cristae.
