Description
Phosphotyrosine is a modified form of the amino acid tyrosine created when a phosphate group is added by protein tyrosine kinases and removed by protein tyrosine phosphatases. It is found within proteins in many cell types, especially those involved in cell signaling such as growth factor receptors and adaptor proteins. Abnormal regulation of phosphotyrosine signaling is linked to diseases, particularly cancer, making it an important target for drug development.
