Description
Description: CD22 is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the sialoadhesion subgroup of the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is primarily expressed in the cytoplasm of pro-B and pre-B cells and on the surface of mature and activated B cells, but not on plasma cells. Functionally, CD22 acts as an inhibitory coreceptor within the B cell receptor (BCR) complex, modulating B cell activation thresholds. This regulatory role is crucial for maintaining immune tolerance and preventing autoimmune responses.
