Description
Description
Annexin V is a 35-36 kilodalton, calcium-dependent phospholipid-binding protein that preferentially binds phosphatidyl serine (PS). In normal viable cells, PS is located on the inner leaflet of the plasma membrane. However, in apoptotic cells, PS is translocated to the extracellular membrane leaflet from the inner, marking cells as targets for phagocytosis. On the outer surface of the membrane, PS can be detected by fluorophore-labeled annexin V in a calcium-dependent manner.
10X Annexin Binding Buffer is a concentrated stock solution used to prepare 1X Annexin Binding Buffer, which is optimized for staining cells with Annexin V conjugates.
