Description

Neutral Red, a weak cationic azine dye, is used most frequently in vitro to determine the toxicity of unknown compounds through the indication of viable cells numbers. Lysosomes within viable cells are prone to being stained by neutral red, while damaged or dead cells do not take up the dye. After the cells are washed, viable cells are then able to release the dye with extraction solutions while non-viable cells are not, providing the ability to calculate the percentage of viable cells in a sample through the quantification of solubilized dye with spectrophotometer. The resulting quantitative measurement makes neutral red extremely useful for a variety of tasks, including research surrounding cancer and treatment.

FEATURES

• Simplicity: There is no requirement for additional reagents
• Safety: Non-radioactive assay
• High-throughput: No wash and cell transfer steps are involved during sample test procedures.
• Accuracy: Absorbance measurement is proportional to the number of cells in each well.
