Description
DESCRIPTION
Rappaport-Vassiliadis Broth (RV Broth) is a selective enrichment medium designed to isolate Salmonella species from food, environmental, and clinical samples. This medium exploits the resilience of Salmonella to high osmotic pressure, low pH, and the presence of malachite green, which inhibits competing flora.
COMPOSITION
- Peptone from soymeal
- Magnesium chloride (MgCl₂)
- Sodium chloride (NaCl)
- Dipotassium hydrogen phosphate (K₂HPO₄)
- Potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KH₂PO₄)
- Malachite green oxalate
APPLICATION
- Inhibits the growth of most bacteria while promoting the growth of Salmonella.
- Utilized in microbiological testing for food safety and environmental monitoring.
