Description: The vesicular acetylcholine transporter (VAChT) is a glycoprotein responsible for the accumulation of acetylcholine (ACh) into presynaptic vesicles of cholinergic neurons, making the neurotransmitter available for release at the presynaptic terminal. VAChT is a significant diagnostic target for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) due to its correlation with the severity of dementia.
