Functions

A highly toxic, carcinogenic mycotoxin produced by Aspergillus parasiticus and Aspergillus flavus. In the liver Aflatoxin B₁ is converted to an epoxide (aflatoxin B₁-8,9-epoxide) which is highly reactive and forms conjugates with DNA, RNA, thiols and proteins. Aflatoxin B₁ reactive metabolites drive oxidative stress, inflammation and apoptosis.

Warning: TOXIC. Avoid exposure by all routes.

Application Procedures

First dissolved in DMSO (up to 30 mg/ml), then diluted to aqueous buffer. Solutions in DMSO may be stored at -20°C for up to 1 month.
