DMEM high glucose without sodium pyruvate is a widely used basal cell culture medium designed to support the growth of many different mammalian cells. It contains four times the concentration of amino acids and vitamins compared to the original Eagle’s Minimal Essential Medium, making it a nutrient-rich formulation for cell culture applications.

This medium supports a wide range of cells, including primary fibroblasts, neurons, glial cells, HUVECs, and smooth muscle cells, as well as established cell lines such as HeLa, 293, Cos-7, and PC-12. Different DMEM modifications are available to meet various research and experimental needs.

The formulation contains 4,500 mg/L glucose, L-glutamine, phenol red, and sodium bicarbonate but does not include sodium pyruvate, allowing users to customize supplementation as needed. It is available in 500 mL or 1 L bottles and should be stored at 2–8°C in the dark, with a final pH of 7.4 ± 0.2.
