Selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM)

 

Functions

A selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) used to treat osteoporosis, it also binds GP130 (a subunit of the IL-6 receptor), thereby blocking IL-6 signaling. For this reason it is in clinical trials for the “Cytokine Storm” induced by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. In addition, it blocks voltage-gated potassium channel Kv4.

 

Application Procedures

First dissolved in DMSO (up to 15 mg/ml), then diluted to aqueous buffer. Solutions in DMSO may be stored at -20° for up to 3 months.
