Iron chelator: Cardioprotective agent

Functions

Iron chelator that has been used as a cardioprotective agent employed during chemotherapy with anthraquinone drugs such as daunorubicin or doxorubicin. More recently it has been shown to inhibit ferroptosis. It inhibited ferroptosis in a cyclophophosphamide-induced cystitis model as well as in doxorubicin-induced cardiomyopathy.

Application Procedures

First dissolved in DMSO (60 mg/ml), then diluted to aqueous buffer. Solutions in DMSO may be stored at -20°C for up to 3 months.
